The AI behind the lists

Packster uses OpenAI's GPT-4o model for paid users and GPT-4o-mini for free tier users. These are state-of-the-art large language models with strong world knowledge about travel destinations, packing requirements, and activity-specific gear.

The AI doesn't just follow a template — it reasons about your specific trip. If you're going to Iceland in summer, it knows to include layers despite the season because of the changeable sub-arctic weather. If you're on a business trip to Tokyo with one formal dinner, it generates appropriate formal wear without over-packing your entire wardrobe.

Common questions

How does the AI know what to put on my packing list?
Packster's AI considers four main inputs: (1) your destination and its typical conditions, (2) the live weather forecast for your travel dates, (3) your planned activities (hiking, beach, business meetings, etc.), and (4) your trip duration. These inputs are combined into a prompt for GPT-4o, which generates a comprehensive, categorised packing list.
What if the generated list misses something I need?
Every generated list is fully editable. You can add items, remove ones that don't apply, and reorganise categories. If you use Packster regularly, the AI memory feature (Annual plan) learns from your packing history and improves recommendations over time.
Is the weather data really live?
Yes — when you create a trip, Packster fetches the current forecast for your destination from a live weather API. This means if you create your list 3 weeks before travel, the forecast will update as your trip approaches. The list is generated based on the forecast at creation time; you can regenerate it closer to departure for updated conditions.
What's the difference between free and paid plans?
The free plan lets you create up to 3 trips with AI-generated packing lists. Paid plans (from $2.99/trip) add: unlimited trips, list sharing and collaboration, trip templates, and AI memory across trips (Annual plan). The underlying AI model is also upgraded to GPT-4o on paid plans.
